post Air Force awards $355M aircraft deal

Sierra Nevada Corp. has landed a $355 million deal to support a Light Air Support aircraft program for the U.S. Air Force. The Sparks, Nev.-based company was awarded the contract Friday from Aeronautical Systems Center, which is headquartered at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. According to the Defense Department, the LAS aircraft will be used for conducting advanced flight training, surveillance, air interdiction, and close air support. It is a single-engine turboprop fixed-wing aircraft, capable of operating from semi-prepared air fields…

But here's a different set of "comeback kids," compiled from the roster of publicly traded Colorado-based companies and based on how their share price rose or fell over the year. Most such year-end lists compare share price on the year's last trading day with the same point a year earlier. This list works a bit differently. Manufacturing activity declined in December in a multistate region that includes Colorado, but future expectations remain strong, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City's latest survey. The survey covers the 10th Federal Reserve District, which includes Colorado as well as western Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Wyoming and northern New Mexico. The survey's composite index was at minus 4 in December, the first negative reading since December 2009. It was at 4 a month ago and 14 a year ago…

An Eden Prairie man who pleaded guilty to an $11.5 million insurance scam in May and who later allegedly faked his death has been arrested in Canada. The Star Tribune reports that Travis Magdalena Scott, 34, was arrested in Winnipeg just before Christmas after being accused by a pharmacy employee of trying to use a forged prescription. Canadian authorities searched Scott's downtown Winnipeg apartment and found $80,000 in gold coins, $30,000 in currency and Taser stun device, the newspaper reported…

Eleven stocks tracked by the San Antonio Business Journal declined in value on Friday. Four local stocks were up at the end of trading. Valero Energy Corp.’s stock was the local leader on Friday. The stock rose 1.45 percent to close at $21.05. Valero owns and operates oil refineries, convenience stores, ethanol plants and a wind farm. The sale of Denver television station KMGH-Channel 7 to E.W. Scripps Co., the former owner of the folded Rocky Mountain News, closed Friday. Cincinnati-based Scripps (NYSE: SSP) announced in October that it would acquire KMGH, an ABC affiliate, as part of a $212 million purchase of the broadcasting division of McGraw-Hill Cos. Inc. (NYSE: MHP).
