Bill would use GSCC funds for Etowah public schools

Half of the funding Gadsden State Community College now receives from Etowah County’s 1-cent sales tax would be used instead by teachers in Etowah County public schools for classroom supply money under legislation sponsored by Rep. Blaine Galliher, R-Rainbow City. According to the Gadsden Times, half of the funding currently earmarked for capital improvements at GSCC would be given to teachers in the county’s three school systems for classroom supplies or technology. However, passage is doubtful because at least one member of Etowah County’s legislative delegation, House Majority Leader Craig Ford, D-Gadsden, said he will oppose the legislation.
