Disney, Univision in talks on news channel

Walt Disney Co.'s ABC News is in talks with Univision Communications about starting a new 24-hour cable channel to target U.S. Hispanics with news broadcasts in English, The Wall Street Journal reports, citing sources familiar with the matter. The move would be a strategic shift for Univision, known for its Spanish-language broadcasts. The new channel also would pit ABC News against others in cable-news competition, including CNN, Fox News and MSNBC. If the deal goes through, a joint venture based in Miami could be broadcasting before the November elections.
