Gadsden may review licensing for cash advance centers

Councilman Deverick Williams said the Gadsden City Council should consider a one-year moratorium on issuing licenses to businesses that offer check cashing, payday loans and title loans. According to the Gadsden Times, Williams said at Tuesday’s council meeting that although the city can’t permanently suspend issuing those type business licenses, it should consider a moratorium. Williams said a moratorium would give the city the opportunity to study some of the measures passed at the state level affecting cash advance centers and legislation that is being considered at the national level.
