Mobile OKs Publix despite traffic concerns by neighbors

Despite concerns by neighbors who said a Publix grocery store in west Mobile would aggravate already-congested traffic in the area, the Mobile City Council unanimously approved plans for the store on Tuesday. According to the Press-Register, the grocery store will sit on about 8 acres on the northeast corner of the intersection at University and Airport boulevards. Council President Reggie Copeland acknowledged that traffic near the intersection was already “horrendous,” but he said the store would be a net positive for the community.
