Walmart pays $4.25 million for new Vine City store

After more than a year of discussion, Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (NYSE: WMT) has bought property for a new store at Historic Westside Village. The discount retailer closed a deal Jan. 30, paying $4.25 million for the former Vine City Publix, according to records from the Georgia Superior Court. Publix vacated the space in 2009. The 70,000- to 80,000-square-foot store will be Walmart’s second intown Atlanta store. The first is at Howell Mill and Interstate 75.
