Charlotte consumers' credit-card debt down 8 percent in 2011

Charlotte consumers have reduced the percentage of their income owed to credit-card companies by nearly 8 percent during the past year, according to a new study by Equifax Inc. Equifax reports that average credit-card debt for households in the Charlotte-Gastonia-Rock Hill metropolitan area dropped to $4,648 in the fourth quarter of 2011 from $4,846 in the fourth quarter of 2010.
